Photographer: Robert Whiteley• Web Site: http://www.neverhappen.comLocation: Brisbane, Australia • Member Since: 12/27/05 • Equipment: Canon

PM: How did you get involved in photography?
RW: My brother always had a camera and used to develop his own work, but only ever black and white. Seeing the anguish he went through I was never remotely interested. Answer I guess is I am not exactly sure how or why I first developed an interest, but its definitely here now.
PM: How would you describe your photographic style?
RW: Although I favour landscapes, I do like shooting the scenes around me and as such carry a camera regularly. I don't think I have really established a fixed style and at this stage that suits me perfectly.
While the best shots are a combination of equipment (including equipment knowledge), location and certainly timing at least two of these can be performed to a high level of satisfaction with relatively unsophisticated but rapidly improving "consumer" cameras.
That said the dSLR is my without doubt my favourite camera, but there are definitely times when a little less weight (and bulk) is required.
PM: Why do you photoblog?
RW: Photography is my only real creative interest, and it provides a great release after spending my days sealed in an office.
The real goal in my photography is to increase the quality of output from the occasional lucky one to most being something happily displayed. Hopefully people can drop past and see something interesting, as well as get a small view outside their own backyard.
PM: What are your strengths and weakness as a photographer?
RW: Not sure what my strengths are in photography, ask me about my work life I can easily tell you. As far as photography is concerned the proof is in the pudding so to speak. Hopefully my eye sees something in an interesting way and inturn that gets captured in the images.
Weaknesses abound unfortunately. My biggest failing though would be equipment knowledge and experience. Being completely self-taught, and never having enough time to read enough, I seem to often get caught in a zone of needing to know more. Trial and error is fun though and the good thing is you never seem to forget learning in that way; it just takes a little longer.
PM: What is the best thing about where you live?
RW: South East Queensland is a place of diversity. The state of Queensland is almost 2.5 times the size of Texas and over 7 times the size of Great Britain so that's probably not too surprising.

Although living in a capital city we are lucky to be surrounded in close proximity by beaches north and south, mountains to the west and a bay full of islands bounded by the Pacific Ocean to the east. Brisbane, well at least as far as the council is concerned is "Australia's most liveable city".
It gets a touch warm mid summer but the weather is absolutely perfect most of the year.

PM: What is your background, and what are you doing when you are not photoblogging?
RW: Exciting as it may sound I am a service delivery manager for an IT outsource provider. Currently I spend my days with customers in mining and government. Fortunately I really enjoy the role.
A current masters degree also consumes more time that I would ideally prefer.
